Chamber Honors Local Leaders
The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce presented its Awards for Chamber Excellence at the annual Chairman's Luncheon on June 26. "The Reston chamber is blessed by having so many fabulous members that take an interest not only in their business but in the community," said GRCC President Penny Pompei.
Joe Ritchey of Prospective Inc. was presented with the chamber's Pinnacle Award. "Joe is one of the most incredible people in Northern Virginia," Pompei said. Ritchey gives back to the community and expects nothing in return, and he is often a quiet, behind-the-scenes person, Pompei said.
Cate Fulkerson received the Best Event award for Reston Association's Ethics Day 2007. During Ethics Day, seniors at South Lakes High School spend a day at the Reston Sheraton hotel acting out ethical dilemmas. "It's a variety of scenarios presented to allow them to consider what their adult life will look like," Pompei said. "Decisions in your adult life are rarely black and white."
The Rookie of the Year award was given to Eric Davis of Sans Serif Graphics. Pompei said Davis joined the chamber last year and immediately began to get involved in committees and events. "It took no time for him to poke around and see what he wanted to do," she said. Kay Smith of Access National Bank was awarded Member of the Year. Smith's involvement in the chamber makes her an exemplary member, Pompei said.
Committee Chair of the Year was awarded to Linda Drake, who works for Falcon Express and serves on the chamber's Government Contracting Committee. Drake was able to re-energize the committee, Pompei said. Employee of the Year went to Andra Portnoy, who serves as membership director of the GRCC. Pompei said Portnoy has incredible energy and enthusiasm and "took the reigns and started to run with it."
