Hornets Dominate Fourth Quarter to Beat Seahawks
The Herndon High School varsity football team took down rival South Lakes 27-6 on Sept. 5. Despite the steady light rain brought in with Tropical Storm Hanna, the game drew a large and spirited crowd. The two teams started out very even, with Herndon scoring the only touchdown in the first quarter. South Lakes scored a touchdown in the second quarter, but the point after was blocked. The Hornets answered with their second touchdown with four seconds left in the first half, but their extra point was also blocked. The game went into halftime at 13-6 with Herndon leading.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Herndon dominated the fourth quarter with the entire time played in South Lakes' end of the field. The Hornets scored two unanswered touchdowns to win the game 27-6.
