Freshmen and sophomores on Herndon High School's boys cross-country team won the junior varsity underclassmen race at the Oatlands Invitational at the Oatlands Plantation on Saturday. Sophomore Jack Belo took 10th place, closely followed by freshmen Harrison Murn (11th), Troy Hunsaker (12th) and Omar Zaki (13th). Sophomore Marshall Findley placed 33rd. Freshman Belle Burgess finished 19th as the top JV underclassmen girls runner for Herndon to help them to their fifth place finish.
Also at the invitational, Herndon varsity boys finished fifth in the B class, and scoring for Herndon were senior Todd Van Luling, Alex Anthony, Jack Jasper, Jimmy Luehrs and Sean Deford. For the girls varsity team, sophomore Carolyn Hennessey finished 59th and senior Laura Ortel finished 60th out of 263 runners overall. Hurini Wijayaratne, one of Herndon's top runners on the girls' varsity team, elected not to run in this event.
