Kudos to Public Servants
The Town of Herndon has two fine examples this past week of the exemplary and dedicated work of its police force and its public works department.
First, congratulations to the town for putting together another amazing Herndon Festival. Bolstered by volunteer aid and excellent planning, the hallmark of the annual festival are good, constant presence by the Herndon Police Department and quick and efficient set-up and clean-up by the Public Works Department.
As usual, drivers on their way to work along Elden Street Monday morning saw few signs that a festival with tens of thousands of visitors had taken place only a few hours before.
Just before The Observer's deadline, we had another example of the great service provided by the people in these two departments when violent thunderstorms roared across town, knocking down trees and downing power lines across Herndon.
Moments after the quick, raging storm had passed by, Herndon Police officers were stationed at every intersection along Elden Street to direct traffic while the lights were repaired. And streets across the town were patrolled by the Public Works staff, who were prepared to remove trees from the public roadways and help clean up the public areas.
We see the good work of these people day in and day out in our fair town, but this week was particularly noteworthy. Keep up the good work, Herndon.
